Food Allergies
A food allergy is when the body’s immune system reacts unusually to specific foods. The signs and symptoms could range from mild to severe, including itchiness, swelling of the tongue, vomiting, diarrhoea, hives, trouble breathing, or low blood pressure. In the most serious cases, a person has a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), which can be life threatening.
From 13th December 2014, all food businesses must provide information about allergenic ingredients in the food they serve. You will need to highlight any of the following 14 major allergens on labels or menus whenever they’re used as ingredients.
It is also recommended to display the below signage at a prominent location within your business, to encourage interaction with customers with allergies.
